DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON SUICIDE ATTEMPTERS ATTENDING CONSULTATION-LIAISON PSYCHIATRY SERVICES AT A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

Aims and Objectives: Suicidal attempts are more common than suicides. Knowing the sociodemographic profile of patients, psychological causes, mode helps gain insight into suicide attempts. This study aims to describe attempters attending consultation-liaison psychiatry services. Methods: was a prospective observational conducted at clinic, Government Villupuram Medical College Hospital, Tamil Nadu on between June 2019 November 2019. Beck’s intent scale used assess level intent. Results: Of total 610 individuals, mean age 28.73±11.73 years, majority were females (57.70%), attempt in young adults (59.18%), married (64.91%), those with secondary school education (54.91%), skilled workers homemakers. Poison consumption most (92.62%), predominantly insecticides. Alcohol intoxication (39.14%) psychiatric derangement. Interpersonal conflict (63.44%) precipitating factor. About 74.92% had less suicidal Conclusion: Marital conflicts, interpersonal alcohol-related illnesses major factors. Restriction availability alcohol toxic insecticides can help reduce incidence deaths. The promotion healthy coping mechanisms community-based mental care activities prevention.
